Childhood Eczema

Childhood eczema is a horrible disease, and no child should have to suffer the itchy, painful symptoms that it manifests as.  If you have a child with this disease, it would be a good idea to read through the rest of the eczema pages here on our site.  Eczema has a genetic component, but in Chinese Medicine, it is not a solid state that one will be in forever.  Even if the disease runs generations deep, we take the stand that it can be stopped in this generation.  There are many therapies available, and treating the root of the problem is a huge gift you can give your suffering child.  This usually involves diet and emotions.  If the mother is still breastfeeding the child (she may not herself have eczema) we treat the mother and have them take the herbs to adjust and balance their own bodies.  If the child is eating solid food, it can be a huge discipline for the parent to hold themselves accountable to the same dietary restrictions as their children.  But, if a parent takes on the journey of showing their children how to be strong by being strong examples in life, the child will learn and heal quickly.  It is hard to not let a three year old have cake, soda, and fast food when the parents are eating it.

It is hard to know what pain can do to an individual (and insane itching is a form of pain) if you yourself have never experienced it chronically, but as the parent you must cultivate extreme gentleness of spirit and heart.  Give your child space to rest, have patients when they are suffering and empathise as best you can.  If you have the opportunity, take the child to a physician well versed in the holistic treatment of eczema.  Children respond very quickly to treatment so if you can, help them today.
